The word "törggelen" is derived from "torggl", this being the tyrolean expression for the "winepress". This is a tradition which takes place in late autumn and one which we also enjoy in our house.
Törggelen
Roasted chestnuts and a good glass of new wine!
After an enjoyable days outing in the colourful autumn landscape we offer our guests a "törggele evening" once a week in our ancient wine-cellar. Dinner comprising of tyrolean specialities such as speck, cheese, sauerkraut, smoked meat and naturally our own red wine are a wonderful way of enjoying a very special autumn evening. The evening is closed off with fried chestnuts and our own "sußer" meaning (sweet wine).
